According to John R Barton there will be a big, hearty breaky followed by what should be an interesting speech from Mr Fischer.
“We are lucky to get him, he is from the Riverina so he’ll know what he is talking about,” Mr Barton said.
“His grain industry knowledge and his thoughts on the topic of trains and the likelihood of them ever running again will be good to hear.”
He is going to speak on his involvement in the Global Crop Diversity Trust or GCDT with Seed Vault in North Norway, this enterprise has been on TV recently showing seeds being stored in a mountain in Norway. Tim has just returned from a meeting of this Trust and will no doubt enthral us all with his tale. He is a well known train buff but many will want to hear of his time as Australian Ambassador to the Holy See in Rome.
Mr Fischer was conscripted into the Australian Army in 1966 and served in The Vietnam War before he entered politics in 1971 and became Deputy Prime Minister in 1996, Ambassador to the Holy See in 2008 and is now a successful book author.
Mr Fischer has written several books including two on trains, one on East Timor and most recently Holy See, Unholy me: 1000 Days in Rome. Mr Fischer has also written a book on his other interests family, farming, charity work and biking and bushwalking in Bhutan.
