NSW Fire and Rescue Deputy Captain Dick Donges said on arrival the building was well lit with fire coming out of the windows and roof as well as a partial collapse of the structure.
The two appliances and 10 Fire and Rescue crew members quickly set up defensive fire fighting lines.
Six NSW Rural Fire Service brigades responded to the call at 8.44am from Wambanumba, Maimuru, Young, Boara, Monteagle and Wootoona in seven tankers.
The NSW Rural Fire Service arrived and relayed water from its tankers to the Fire and Rescue tankers as there were no hydrants that far from town.
The Rural Fire Service pumped water out of tanks and dams as the Fire and Rescue squads continued to battle the blaze.
Mr Donges said the fire was brought under control in around 45 minutes from crews arriving on scene, however it took a good couple of hours for the fire to be extinguished completely mainly due to the collapse of the building.
Fire and Rescue handed the scene over to NSW Rural Fire Service and its investigators at 1pm on Sunday afternoon.
The scene is still under investigation.
Though there were no injuries a local family has lost almost everything aside from the clothes that were on their back. As soon as many locals heard about the fire and the situation the family had been left in they were offering donations, gifts and support. On Monday a bank account was set up so anyone who could or wanted to make cash donations could do so.

Car fire on Sunday
At 7.53pm on Sunday evening local NSW Rural Fire Service brigades responded to the call of a vehicle fire on Commons Road, Young.
Wambanumba and Boara tankers and six crew members arrived on the scene at 8.03pm to find the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.
According to NSW Rural Fire Service District Officer Trevor Reeves the vehicle which is believed to have been abandoned was a total loss.
Mr Reeves said the fire is being treated as suspicious and police attended the scene on Sunday evening and are investigating the circumstances.
Mr Reeves said police obtained statements from witnesses at the scene.
