Hilltops Council have engaged Facility Design Group to prepare a master plan for the Young Aquatic Centre.
According to a Council spokesperson as part of this project Facility Design Group will be undertaking a community consultation program to inform the development of the master plan for the upgrade of the Aquatic Centre.
“The purpose of the community consultation is to seek the views and ideas for all participants on the current proposed concept design that was previously prepared for the Young Aquatic Centre and provide feedback on the key issues that should be considered in upgrading this facility in the future,” the spokesperson said.
“This consultation process is intended to be used to inform the designers of the key issues that will need to be considered when developing the final design for the upgrade and where necessary highlight a staged upgrade process for the future.”
Hilltops Council is extending an invitation to residents in the Young area to attend the meeting and meet with the project designers.
During the meeting residents are welcome to express their views and ideas which Council has said it will take into consideration.
“The results of consultation will be presented to Council to enable them to have an appreciation of the implementations and changes that should be considered in future for upgrading the Young Aquatic Centre.”
The community meeting will be held on Monday August 6 2018, 7pm in the LEOC room at Hilltops Council’s Young Office.
All community members are invited to come along and share their ideas.
The announcement of the community consultation comes on the heels of a Young Witness poll which showed more than 90 per cent of readers want a heated pool for the town as well as community sentiments that the $1.7 million allocated under the Stronger Communities Fund to update the Entrance and Turnstiles at the Young Aquatic Centre would be better used in other areas of the facility.
“I’m no builder but one would think that $1.7 million could be spent on whole new toilet/shower facilities rather than the entrance and turn styles! No more consulting and feasibility studies, just get the job done!” one local resident posted on Facebook.
“1.7 million for the entrance and turnstiles? Hope that [sic] a typo. If not, that's a joke! ” another local posted.
The community can have their say on August 6 from 7pm at Young Town Hall.
