The donation came about after the Board of Salamander Bay recycling got behind the idea of fishing identity John ‘Stinker’ Clarke that coastal towns who are largely unaffected by the harsh realities of country living should adopt their country cousins and provide support in times of need.
Mr Clarke believes it is important that coastal areas show support and let their friends in the bush know that they are not alone and that all coastal shires should adopt a bush shire and support them when they are struggling.
Mr Clarke will be travelling to the Hilltops region next weekend to speak at “Day for the Blokes” which is aimed at getting men talking and providing support and connection for men in regional areas.
A fantastic line up of guest speakers have been arranged and include Peter ‘Wilko’ Wilkins, multi award winning Broadcaster, former ABC Sports Presenter and Journalist.
As well as local identity Richie Fleming, “From Dublin to Boorowa – an Irishman’s Journey.
Port Stephens businesses have generously come on board with the idea and donated prizes for the event including accommodation, meals and fishing gear.
Hilltops Councillor Wendy Tuckerman says, “We are extremely grateful for the support we have received for this fantastic event and thank Salamander Bay Recycling for their generous donation”.
“Tickets for the event are selling fast and I encourage all local men to get involved,” Cr Tuckerman said.
“Day for the Blokes” provides an opportunity for men to relax, have a meal and a few beers, have a laugh.
It will be held on Friday July 27, 2018 from 6pm at the Boorowa Recreation Club.
