A drunk learner driver who fled his broken down vehicle after hitting a kangaroo has been disqualified from driving for six months and fined $800.

Angus Curtis, 20, of Young was convicted of two charges at Young Local Court on Wednesday, following the offence on Back Creek Road near Kingsvale on May 2.

According to facts, police formed the opinion that Curtis consumed a quantity of alcohol that would have been “well above the prescribed concentrate for a learner driver”.
Police attended a property on Back Creek Road about 4.20am on May 2 after receiving calls from a witness.

Curtis had earlier hit a kangaroo and the engine of his vehicle had seized about 300m from the Currawong Road intersection.
He went on foot and stopped at a property and explained to the witness what happened.
Police asked Curtis about his alcohol consumption to which he admitted to drinking an “unknown quantity” before leaving a pub in Harden about 10pm.
Police formed the opinion he was over the limit.
He was charged with driving under influence of alcohol and driving unaccompanied.
