The history of the Young band dates way back to the very beginning of the Lambing Flat Enterprises establishment.
“We are a huge part of the history behind Young and we used to do so much,” Liz said.
“We want to reignite the fire and to earn the support to get us going again.”

The Young band, consisting of a diverse range of around 20 musicians, would like to expand and to be recognised once again as a large part of the community’s entertainment and services of the Hilltops region.
The band is holding a concert on November 4 in the hopes of encouraging further community support in order to be able to continue into the future with a zeal to serve the Young Hilltops region.
“The Town Band has been performing for over 150 years. I personally have been playing on and off in the band for 40 years, that’s how much it means to me, just to be able to give back to the community and to entertain at public events,” Liz said.
“It’s a passionate and diverse art in our community, age or ability is not a barrier, the youngest member is 10, and our oldest is around 70.
“We want to bring back the history. We used to perform in so much around Young and we had a high profile in the community,” Liz said.

The Young band has always been a large part of the entertainment for the Cherry Festival, for Anzac day, Carols by Candlelight and for many large events.
“At one point the Young band would go into numerous competitions in Sydney and all over NSW and really bring attention to our town. We would have competitions down the street and at the Showground and it would attract big bands to our town,” Liz said.
“We would love to get that happening again, but we do need the support.”
Band members encourage the community, councillors and other musicians to come along on November 4 and re-fall in love with the atmosphere of the music world that the Young band performances create. Membership is free and the band rehearses in the Young Town Hall on Monday nights from 6pm – 7.30pm.
