This week’s event marked the 21st year since a committee of Young golfers organised an inaugural tournament in the 1990s.
According to organiser Bill Kearney about 90 per cent of this year’s field were visitors from outside Young from places including Mildura, Warren, Central Coast, South Coast, suburbs of Sydney and up to Queensland.

Golfers take part in a 4Ball Best Ball Stableford on Monday before the individual Cherry Festival Open on Tuesday and Thursday and it ends with a 4Ball Medley on Friday afternoon.
Mr Kearney explained why the event is played annually in the third week of November.
“It’s always been the third week of November because it’s designed around the cherry harvest, which attracts people. People come to pick cherries, buy cherries, eat cherries and have a game of golf at one of the best golf courses about,” he said.
The week-long event begins with a social function on Sunday and is capped off on Friday night with the presentation.
“For years we had 100 to 120 golfers. Now we get 180 to 200 people. It’s still growing,” Bill Kearney said.

Men and ladies compete throughout three divisions to decide the individual Cherry Festival Open winners, however there’s all sorts of prizes handed out throughout the week.
“We don’t have a lot of low markers play but there’s a reasonable standard,” Mr Kearney said.
“Most are regulars that have been coming for more than 10 years. The people say the course is brilliant.”
