Multiple triple-0 calls were received at around 7am on Wednesday with crews responding to the school on the corner of Campbell and Gordon streets.
Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Phill Eberle said firefighters from Young station were quick to respond.
“The first triple-0 call was received at 6.56am and crews were on scene at 7.06am,” he said.
“A small fire started when the cleaners were going in and turned on the air conditioner.
“The fire has been extinguished quickly.”
Inspector Eberle said while the conditioning unit was located on the outside of the building, some smoke has entered the adjoining room.
“Crews are still on scene and they’re just checking that the fire hasn’t gone further into the building,” he said.
Inspector Eberle said there was no suspicious circumstances surrounding the ignition of the fire and there were no injuries to staff or crews.
He also praised the quick response of firefighters from Young.
“It was a great response from Young because these fires can grab hold pretty quick,” Inspector Eberle said.
Young High School has not yet made a statement on whether the fire will have any impacts on students heading back to school.
