Our 2019 representative season kicked off with a bang last week with most age groups reporting a resounding win against Wagga Brothers.

Under 6s - The game was exciting, filled with lots of tries and the players had so much fun! Bronson Gardner scored two tries, while Nixon Gault, Archer Knott and Tom McKnight all came away with three tries each. Coach Dale Prindable reported he was happy with the team spirit they showed on the field and extended his appreciation to the coaches, parents, players and families of the Wagga Brothers for travelling to Young to play a thrilling game of football. The Actew AGL Picker of the Match Award went to Archer Knott.
Under 8s - Our players came away with the win in what was a very close game. Tries went to Jack Hunt, Zander Ashton and Xaviar Bourne, with Braith Anderson scoring four tries on the day! Conversions by Jack Hunt, Braith Anderson, William Woods, Jimmy Smith, Leo Holt and Max Aiken to bring the score to a thrilling 36-34 win. The J & C Powderly Picker of the Match Award went to Zander Ashton.
Under 8 LT - The girls had a great first game and all their hard work at training really showed on the day. There were plenty of great tags from many girls, along with some impressive plays. Ava McKnight scored three tries and Rilee Coddington came away with two, while Bria Owen, Amelia McRae and Molly Brien all scored one try each. The Sportspower Picker of the Match was Stella Gibson.
Under 9s - All on the field played really well and came together as a team for their first game of the season. Cayden Cross put in his usual strong effort which helped all the boys to put their best foot forward. The highlight of the match was James Kelly with an outstanding number of hit ups and game control which earned him the Wilder's Bakery Picker of the Match Award.
Under 10s - The Pickers really put their training into place on Saturday with some brilliant attack from Harry Coddington and Max Schilt leading the way. This was followed with fantastic defence by Alexander Reynolds. Mitch Gibson earned himself the Corbett's Tyres Picker of the Match Award. Final score 44-10.
Under 10s LT - The girls kicked off their season with a close game. Their coach Alf Bedford was impressed with the girl's determination to ensure that everyone got to touch the ball and make some nice runs. Lara's defensive game was a highlight as was Skyler's strong overall performance which earned her the MA Steel Picker of the Match Award.
Under 11s - The Young Services Club Under 11 Cherrypickers kicked off their season in fine style with a victory over a determined Brothers side. The boys haven't played a game as a team yet this year and started in commendable fashion with very little signs of rust. Middle forwards, Harry Moncrieff , Cooper Saines, Shaun McAllister and Archie Challen ran hard and got some great play the balls. While our edges ran and passed beautifully and all played a great team game working hard to create and share opportunities with their team mates. Our halves Riley Noakes and Nate Cullen organised and moved the players around in great fashion in a selfless, team-first performance. Both dummy halves Jarryd Foster, with two tries, and Braydon Morgan gave great service. Fullback Dane Mott played the link role between halves and edges seamlessly and was the Young Services Club Picker of the Match. Final Score 40-34.
Under 12s - The season began in good form with a convincing win. In attack the boys ran hard, moved the ball around well and supported each other to score some fantastic team tries. The Young Car Wash Picker of the Match went to Drew Edwards. Final score 34-0.
Under 12s LT - The girls played really well together for their first real game as a team. Their defence was a stand out with tries going to Indigo and Kelsey. Tiana scored two tries and a conversion. Her efforts earned her the Commercial Hotel Picker of the Match Award. Final Score 18-8.
Under 14s - The boys had a good win to start their season off. Their defence was very good and they showed flair in their attack. Jesse Thompson earned himself the Patterson Bros Funeral Directors Picker of the Match Award for his powerful runs in the back line, with Jacko Hines a highlight in the middle. Final Score 34-0.
Under 16s LT - A great start to the season with a convincing win. Our defence was an outstanding team effort with Hollie Madgwick at fullback taking some brilliant tags ensuring the opposition only crossed the line once in the 50 minutes of play. Our game was spectacular due to the support play by the girls. Bree Smith was a highlight running from left centre and breaking the Brother's line several times. Our halves and back rowers were impressive through the middle with Ellie Crocker crossing the line four times. Brydee Harden, Mia Carroll and Hollie Madgwick also bagged a try each. Our captain for the day, Elly Sabidussi showed great leadership through her on field communication and conversion of three tries. Kate Davidson and Hollie Madgwick also took on goal kicking duties and added greatly to our victory. The Jewlz n Thingz Picker of the Match went to Elly Sabidussi. Final score 42-6.
With the sun shining and clear skies we began Round 2 of our Town Comp for 2019.
Our Under 7s came out strong this week with the Milne's Meats Broncos taking on the Donges IGA Sharks. For the Broncos, Ethan Whitehouse stole the spotlight and was awarded the McDonald's Encouragement Award. The Sharks had lots of fun and played a strong defensive game narrowly defeating the Broncos 8 to 6. The MacDonald's Encouragement Award was awarded to Lachlan Corbett. The S & C Club Panthers played the Delta Eels in a fantastic match with the Eels scoring four tries. The McDonald's Encouragement Award went to Elliot Palmer.
Our Under 9s Café de Jour Raiders took on the Aust Seed Tech Storm in a very enjoyable match. The Raiders showed a big improvement in their defence and came away with tries to Mitchell Schiller and two for Leo Holt, who was awarded the McDonald's Encouragement Award. Storm came out strong with Lincoln Sutherland and Zander Ashton scoring tries in the first half with Ethan Light converting. Zander, Lincoln and Cruz Brownlie scored in the second half with Lincoln converting. The McDonald's Encouragement Award was given to Toby Edwards. Final score Storm defeated the Raiders 24-16. In our second game the Under 9s Gault Electrical Rabbitohs took on the Kay McDonald Trophies Sea Eagles. The coaches reported a great contest with every player trying their best and never giving up. Braith Anderson scored an impressive five tries with conversions for James Kelly, Will Gibson, Cole Bloor and Lewis Miller. The McDonald's Encouragement Award went to Will Gibson. The Sea Eagles played a tough but fair game. Tries to Ryan Jewitt and Nixon Dean, while Zack Milne and Cayden Cross both scored two tries each. Conversion for Jack Willis, Xavier Bourne and Cayden Cross. The McDonald's Encouragement Award went to Zack Milne.
Our Under 11s Hilltop's Fruit Barn Dragons played the Federation Motel Roosters. They had some strong runs and defended well on the day. Tries to Braydon Morgan and Lachlan Shea with Peter Cutmore converting. Peter Cutmore was awarded the McDonald's Encouragement Award. Roosters played a strong game with tries to Billy Davis, Dane Mott, Max Schilt and Shaun McAlister, while Lachlan Batinich dominated with three tries. Conversions to Lachlan, Dane, Shaun and Nick Death had the Roosters come away with a 36-10 win. The McDonald's Encouragement Award went to Makali Tonpi. In the second game the PJ's Fast Food Bulldogs took on SWS Credit Union Tigers in a hard fought match. The Bulldogs played well with some great movement of the ball and tough tackles. Clever tries to Jarryd Foster and Jesse Thorpe with conversions by Nate Cullen and Archie Challen. The McDonald's Encouragement Award went to Nate Cullen. The Roosters showed a big improvement in their defence and good attacking plays to come away with the win 28-12. The McDonald's encouragement award went to Riley Noakes.
