The feature race of the day was taken out by the Kerry Weir trained eight-year-old gelding Bondo ridden by Megan Creed who arrived in time to defeat the early favourite Danetrille and the locally owned Kruanui in a thrilling and very close finish.
The winning margin being half-a-neck with a half length separating the minor placegetters.
Trainer Kerry Weir is a regular supporter of these meetings and has won the Cup on a number of occassions. President of the club, Richard Thackeray was on hand to present the Young Hotel/South West Slopes Credit Union Cup on behalf of the sponsors with the owners also receiving the Poppas Fudge Factory gift pack, courtesy of Vickie and Kevin Powderly.
Racing opened with a 1000m maiden handicap and this was taken out by Star Of Samara trained by Garry Kirkup of Canberra and ridden by Jordan Mallyon.
This three-year-old filly, who raced in the colours of white and purple, had been named with the intention of being a representation of her strapper, the late Samara Johnson, but unfortunately Samara passed away 18 months ago. Placegetters Stazzana, ridden by Belinda Wright and favourite Madam Ruby fought out the minors with a three length winning margin in favour of the winner and a slick 57.89s being recorded for the 1000m race on a track that was set at a firm two retrospective to the opening race.
Race two was certainly one for the punters when topweight Denman Diva for trainers Ron Western and John Nisbet led throughout to defeat recent Boorowa Picnics winner Valorhesse and Iltexya for Chris and Nic Heywood.
Bathurst trainer Roy McCabe saddled up recent Trangie winner Gaze Beyond in race three and again the money was spot on. With Michael Travers in the saddle, the four-year-old mare showed great heart to defeat the topweight Little Capri ridden by local apprentice Tyler Schiller with O'Princess filling the minor placing in an exciting race.
The Canberra connection struck again in race four when Todd Smart and jockey Brendan Ward combined to take out the race with the three year old gelding Mosolino who arrived in time to defeat Nanga.
The final race of the day again resulted in a very close finish with Rip Into Ghia taking home the prize, ridden by Kayla Nisbet for another Canberra trainer in Luke Pepper.
The framed print of the mare Winx that was finalised at the meeting was won by Wagga trainer Chris Hardy.
The club would sincerely like to thank all those who made the day possible and another day to remember at the famous Toompang Racecourse.
