Young entered the match in sixth spot and with three games remaining, they now face a huge match against fifth-placed Leeton United at MIA Sports Field next week.
Young coach Mark Mellish said his side had opportunities and was disappointed not to get the three points.
"We had good opportunities, Duncan Cameron hit the post and unfortunately it didn't go in," Mellish said.
"It's disappointing not to get the two extra points but it was a good game."
He said a win this week would be a big boost.
"They're a couple of points in front. We beat them 2-0 here earlier in the season. So we just have to go over there and stick to our guns and get the win which would make things easier for the final weeks." United entered the game level with Henwood Park in third, but the Hawks' 5-0 rout of Tumut means they now have some work to do if they are to grab the double chance in finals.
"We missed four sitters, two were from inside the six-yard box," Wagga United coach Travis Weir said.
"That's the best I've seen us play without a result, our shape and structure was fairly disciplined and our creativity was pretty good."
Young travels to Leeton this weekend while United hosts Hanwood FC.
