Brett launched his 'Don't Dis-my-ability' radio show last Thursday where he explained on air how he himself suffered from a traumatic brain injury and the help he has received locally from disability services.
"The show will talk about services out there for people with disabilities," Brett said.
"We'll discuss service providers and we're hoping to get other locals involved to come on and talk about their experiences."
The half-an-hour long show was Brett's brainchild which he pitched to the 2YYY board and was welcomed unanimously.
"I've got a disability, I know what its like to have a lack of support," Brett said.
"I wrote a letter to the board about the possibility of doing a show and the decision was unanimous with the board thinking it was a good idea."
Brett said that he wants to make the opportunity he has been given to count.
"I want to make sure its a big show, I don't want to let the board down," he said.
Feedback from Brett's first show which went to air last Thursday was extremely positive with lots of community members making contact to let Brett know how much they appreciate him doing the show.
"The feedback has been awesome," Brett said with one local telling him they found the show to be 'true, honest and funny in a good way.'
Brett is hoping that other locals with disabilities will come on the show and discuss issues or matters of importance with him with parents and carers also invited to join him behind the microphone.
"Anyone who might be interested can ring 2YYY and leave a message," he said.
"They can come and have a chat, have their say."
Brett's new program is also looking for sponsors, anyone interested in sponsoring the half-an-hour spot is encouraged to contact 2YYY for more information.
Don't Dis-my-ability goes to air live every Thursday between 1.30pm and 2pm.
