Burrangong was named by John North who bred the now six-year-old at Bowness Stud, Young.
Trainer John Rolfe said he's been targeting this race for the past two years.
"We couldn't get a jockey last year but he was set for it," Rolfe said.
"He's third-up from a spell now and we have had him set for this Cup since he went out for a previous spell."
Rolfe has been a big supporter of the Burrangong Picnic Races for a number of decades but is yet to crack victory in the feature.
He's enjoyed a successful run with Burrangong since taking ownership after the gelding failed to make it in Sydney.
Rolfe, along with his wife and children are part owners, and says victory on Saturday would be a massive thrill.
"All the family are owners so it'd be really good," he said.
"When we got him he'd had 15 starts for no places, we've had three wins with him and he's going well.
Burrangong is one of six horses set to contest this year's $3740-to-the-winner Cup.
Rolfe has booked the services of Victorian jockey Tim Grace who was onboard for Burrangong's second place finish in the Boorowa Picnic Cup last preparation.
They'll leave barrier four in the 1400m race.
"Hopefully he sits second or third close to the lead, he's got a good sprint so I think he's suited to the track," Rolfe said.
Plenty will be happening trackside including $4000 worth prizes up for grabs with Fashions on the Field.
President Tom Wills encourages the community to support the event.
"We usually bank on about 1500-2000 people, generally it's about there each year. We are encouraging people to get here with family and friends," Mr Wills said.
The five race program begins 1.30pm with the Cup set for a 4pm jump.
Buses will be leaving the Aussie Hotel from 11.45am and returning from the track until 8.30pm.
Gates open at the track about 12pm on Saturday.
