An unplanned, spur of the moment idea by Young's Paul Bailey to do his "two bob's worth" has resulted in a wave of items being donated in just over 24 hours.
Paul decided on Thursday morning, following a conversation with his son Brenton who lives in Singleton, to see if he could spark some interest from the community.
The response he received was huge.
He started at the Hilltops Community Hub about 10.30am on Thursday.
The Hub provided a place for donations to be collected, and put a post on its Facebook page calling for nappies, food, toiletries, underwear, or disposable face masks, eye drops, lip balms, water, baby wipes, toilet paper, energy drinks and snacks.
Donges IGA was the second stop and they gave Paul a $100 gift voucher.
He then visited 2YYY community radio station who put him on-air straight away.
Paul said he's been stunned by the generous response from the town.
"There was no thought, or plan or discussion. I thought I might get half a ute load," Paul said.
"I was told on Thursday afternoon that some items had been dropped off, then this morning I was told I might need a trailer. I thought 'yea right'. I was not expecting this much."
A room at the Hub was packed, while residents were still dropping off items late Friday afternoon.
Paul was beginning to load his trailer for the trip to Singleton on Saturday morning.
From there, the items donated from Young will join similar collections at Singleton, and will be distributed to areas ravaged by fire.
"Everyone would be doing it tough up there. We really probably have on idea what they're going through. You can't even imagine. I just thought I'd do my two bob's worth," Paul said.
