A plaque honouring the achievements of Young golf legend Maurice Penson has been added to the town's Sports Walk of Fame.
"We were thrilled to be able add Maurice to the Sports Walk of Fame for his contributions to the sporting community and entire community," Hilltops mayor Brian Ingram said.
Maurice said it was an "unbelievable" feeling to be added to the Walk of Fame.
"To accept something like this is unbelievable," he said.
"Although I've played a lot of sport in this town, my major thoughts has always been to make this. I thank everyone so much. I don't think a person like me should receive something as wonderful as this.
"I thoroughly enjoyed the friendships I made with everyone."
Maurice's exceptional career boasts 25 club championship victories at the Young Golf Course between 1949 and 1990.
He's won a championship trophy in every decade from 1940 and 2000.
Maurice's unofficial record at Young was shot in 1987 when he carded 60 off the stick. He's a NSW veteran champion and has represented NSW Country on multiple occasions.
He's a life member of the Young Golf Club and has assisted at an administrative level over many decades while observing grass greens replace sand greens, the introduction of irrigation, and clubhouse improvement and expansion.
Maurice was acknowledged at the 2018 Sports Advisory Committee Awards.
