Kindy students settle in across schools in Young

Young Public School welcomed 64 new students including the only set of twins, Lucille and Theodore Flagg.

Forty-three students have started their education at Young North Public School, and 35 new kindergarten students have settled in at St Mary's Primary School.

Across the board Young North Public School has around 300 students, which has been a stable figure for the past three years.

St Mary's has 297 children in 2020 and have welcomed nine new students across classes other than kindergarten.

Four hundred and ninety-seven kids in total are learning at Young Public School.

"Kindergarten are settling into school routines well, and have already commenced the evidence-based whole-class literacy program, InitiaLit. The program provides the essential core knowledge for strong foundations from the outset. Kindergarten have also started health hustle and singing each week, and will begin gross motor rotations for sport on Thursday in week six," Young Public School principal Edwina Wymer said.

More than 200 students have started high school in Young this year.

Young High School has 112 students who have started Year 7, while Hennessy Catholic College has welcomed 103.

The total population of students at Young High School is 588, while at Hennessy Catholic College there's 480 students across the year groups.

Acting principal of Young High School Angela Trinder says there's been a rise of about 20 students in Year 7.

"We have an exciting transition program and the opportunities we provide to students is encouraging more to attend," Angela Trinder said.
