President of the auxiliary Janice Ward said it was disappointing to put the event on hold.
Janice over the past few months has collected a huge amount of information from local newspaper clippings from the past 90 years.
She says the Hospital Auxiliary was established with a 26 member committee following a meeting held at School of Arts under the presidency of Mr FH Tout on Tuesday, March 18, 1930, making it one of the earliest auxiliaries formed.
An article in the Daily Witness on May 30, 1930 reported that Mrs H Marina was declared the first president of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Burrangong District Hospital.
Through support from the community over the years, Young's Hospital Auxiliary has continued to raise money to furnish and equip the hospital, with the main aim being patient comfort and care.
"Over the past 10 years the hospital auxiliary has gifted items to the hospital worth over $30,000 per year on average. We have only been able to do this through the generous support of the community and various clubs and groups large and small, which we very much appreciate," Janice said.
A number of accolades have been received during the past 100 years including life memberships to the United Hospital Auxiliary to Mrs C Marshall (1959), Pru Lindsay (1996) and Chris Page (2016).
In 2005, following a huge fundraising effort, the group received the Lillian B Dart Memorial Trophy awarded to a country branch that has raised the most money.
"This is the year members raised over $500,000 to furnish and equip the new Young hospital. A remarkable achievement," Janice said.
The largest purchase has been a $45,128 SonaSite Ultrasound (2018-19) for the emergency department.
A 1930s style tea party and fashion show had been organised to celebrate the 90th anniversary on Saturday, March 28 at Young Town Hall, however it's now been cancelled as council suspended all gatherings and meetings at its facilities.
A similar function is now planned for late in the year. Refunds are available by return of tickets to M&M's. Please claim funds by April 9.
