Big rats displayed at 'BIG' Art Exhibition

The Lambing Flat Chinese Festival has been postponed for this coming Saturday, however the three large rats created for the twilight lantern parade are in their colourful best and on display in the Town Hall at the annual Lambing Flat Sculpture Wood and 'BIG' Art Exhibition.

The large rat lanterns were fashioned in a workshop attended by local students and artists, with techniques taught by a Southern Tablelands Arts facilitator.

The exhibition runs from Thursday through to Sunday at the Young Town Hall with a variety of opening hours.

Lambing Flat Museum

The museum opens daily, honours the past, is staffed by volunteers brimming with knowledge, and is one of the most popular destinations for visitors in the Hilltops region.

The museum is located opposite St Mary's Catholic Church in Campbell Street, also known as Olympic Highway. The museum houses many interesting artifacts, including a relic from the goldfields that has national significance.

Gallery exhibition

Burrangong Gallery is featuring a 'Second Time Round' exhibition of small art and photography over coming weeks. The exhibition of Young Society of Artists Inc displays a diverse range of art across all mediums, styles and subjects.

Young regional farmers market

The Young regional farmers market are planning to leave plenty of space between the 20 or so stalls booked for their markets this Saturday at Anderson Park. You can expect to purchase a wide array of products including grapes and Batlow apples, seasonal vegetables, Korean food and the usual wine, plants, goats milk products, baked goods, honey and more.

Monteagle Fire Brigade will be operating atheir barbeque withy salad and pork and gravy rolls a specialty. Delivery can be arranged.

Council to make delivery register

Under the current situation more people are making inquiries about home delivery services.

Local supermarkets and eateries are top of the list of those products people would like delivered. If your business offers delivery service to customers please let council know so that council can provide an up to date register.

Take 5 takes a breather

Young Library's Take 5 on Friday concert series is one of the events that have been put on hold due to concerns around the spread of COVIDC-19.

This week Jim Lamb and friends were to have shared some light-hearted bush poetry and funny observations. There were also plans for Judy Barker to share her own jazz refrains, a piano recital from Amanda Isbester, a flute ensemble and more. The concerts will return to the regular Friday 12.30pm to 1pm event schedule as soon as it is possible.

Thanks to the performers and audience members whose participation has resulted in over 110 concerts hosted at the library in the past two and a half years, with over 3000 audience attendances.

Antique display postponed

St John's Anglican Church Young members were planning to support the community this Saturday by holding an event coinciding with the now cancelled Lambing Flat Chinese Festival on March 21. This year St John's was to hold an Antique and Vintage Linen Display at the parish hall. However this event has also now been postponed.

Council last week cancelled the Lambing Flat Chinese Festival scheduled to be held in Young on March 21.

"This decision has been made taking into consideration that a number of our traditional performers are now unable to attend resulting in the program being significantly impacted," the statement said.
