Police last week reported that a driver had allegedly been caught speeding at 87km/hr inside a school zone at Young North Public School. Police say they have been paying extra attention to school zones as a result of feedback from the community regarding concerns about speeding motorists. Seven speeding tickets last week were issued around Young North Public School.
"Highway patrol also has a presence in areas where intelligence indicates traffic offenders or traffic offences are located," Inspector Jacob Reeves said.
"Whilst we don't not wish to be booking motorists around our town, we will be responsive to community complaints and also focus on areas where there is an unacceptable risk to safety, especially to the safety of children. Areas where children are about or playing and where pedestrians are walking, 40km/hr school zones and 50km/hr residential zones, are of key importance. Please follow the posted speed limits and do your part to ensure we have safe school zones and safe residential streets."
Also, on Saturday morning, a man in Young was charged with mid-range drink driving.
A total of six drink driving offences were issued across the Hume Police District over the weekend. All were suspended from driving.
"Please think about your loved ones next time you go to hop in the driver's seat after few drinks," a spokesperson for Hume Police District said.
