After a win over Junee before a strong showing in the loss to Gundagai to start the season, the Cherrypickers were well off the pace against the premiers.
Lachlan Bristow had a field day early from dummy half and their sloppy defence is one thing coach Nick Hall wants to work on during the bye this week.
"They were very smart, very good and their tempo was good in the middle and with their enthusiasm and execution they beat us in all facets in the middle," Hall said.
"The game chilled down, they lost some players and it just stagnated after that.
"They were still good enough to sneak on the last few points, the points that annoy coaches in the end, but it was just done in the first 15."
Bristow took advantage of some lazy defence from Young making a big break in the opening minute of the clash, which helped set up an early try to Jordan Anderson, before scoring himself after 10 minutes.
He then made another break to set up a try for his older brother before Michael Fenn crossed to extend Young's struggles.
Even with the star hooker off with his ankle problem, Jacob Toppin found room behind the ruck to send Zac Masters over after 25 minutes and the Blues out to a 28-0 lead.
Young took advantage of some rare possession, with Mick Picker scoring after Nic Hall plucked a Jacob Lucas kick out of the air, but it was a rare highlight for Young in the first half.
Hall was at a loss to know what went wrong with the team's defence.
"We were just off the pace early when they challenged us," he said.
"You can't say it was our big guys or our little guys it was all our guys. Even some of our edges were getting caught out and we just didn't defend well enough."
The second half was much closer and Toppin, who was playing his 100th first grade game, and Thomas Jenkins were sin binned in quick succession as both teams struggled to get out of an arm wrestle.
However Parish Bellette sparked something for the Blues as he regathered his own rebounding kick to score with 15 minutes remaining.
Mick Dodson crashed over for a consolation effort however Hall is looking for the side, who now sit on the bottom of the ladder, to compete harder. He believes the bye has come a good time to reassess where they need to be, and help freshen bodies. Young face Brothers, who are yet to taste defeat, in Wagga following the bye.
Hall also confirmed hooker Ben Picker won't be back due to his knee injury.
Reserve grade, under 16s and the ladies' league-tag enjoyed wins while under 18s went down to Tumut.
