According to a MLHD spokesperson the total number of cases in the region remains at 56 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The spokesperson said a total of 701,204 tests have been conducted up until 8am on Thursday October 15, 2020 which was an increase of 414 tests conducted in the 24 hours up until the same time.

"In response to the recent rise in cases in Shepparton, the Murrumbidgee Local Health District is stepping our testing in the Border region with a blitz on testing," the spokesperson said.

"If you have been in Shepparton in the last 14 days, please be alert to the high risk COVID-19 locations in Shepparton."

The recent increase in positive cases in regional Victoria and some parts of New South Wales have highlighted the speed with which the virus can spread through community transmission.

MLHD Medical Controller Dr Len Bruce calls for community vigilance and for people to come forward for testing even with the slightest evidence of a cough or sniffle.
