Investigation under way over scam:
An investigation is underway by officers from The Hume Police District following reports of a scam.
During the past week officers have received reports of a scam involving unsolicited calls to people in the area from people purporting to be from the Australian Taxation Office.
The scam involves the threat of immediate arrest if money is not paid.
In one case, a victim paid thousands of dollars in a cash payment to an unknown man after receiving numerous phone calls. In one of the calls, the scammers also threatened to send the local police to see the victim.
