$261,123 will be spent on four separate footpaths on Boorowa Street, Main Street and Lynch Street.
The money is left over from a $1.7 million grant Hilltops Council received in May. $1.2 million was allocated to Milvale Road upgrades.
A recommendation to allocate the balance of funds to footpaths renewal work in Young was endorsed at council's November ordinary meeting last week.
The sections include Boorowa Street from the Commercial Hotel to Clarke Street (TSG) excluding paving outside Young Town Hall where paving will remain.
Lynch Street from Amcal Pharmacy to ANU Medical School, and Lynch Street from Slate (former Jolly Roger Store) to start of the Post Office. And Main Street from Art of Espresso to the Commercial Hotel.
Harden footpaths received $156,285 for renewals, and Boorowa footpaths $153,660.
At the meeting, council staff explained to councillors that their aim was to create consistency with surrounding footpaths in the CBD.
"We're trying to follow the elements we already have in the main street with the black AC (asphalt concrete) footpath and dark red banding," councillors were told.
Councillor Marg Roles raised concerns with dark coloured footpaths.
"My concerns are with the dark colour especially with projected increase in temperatures and also if we're looking at some stage doing a streetscape for Young, which I hope we are, then I think we have to consider very carefully what the footpaths are going to look like in that time," Cr Roles said.
Mayor Ingram said the aim was "uniformity" not a "jigsaw puzzle".
"The whole idea of this in the first place was going for uniformity and some continuity with our footpaths so they would look the same and not like a jigsaw puzzle," mayor Brian Ingram said.
Councillors were told the existing red banding could be repainted in the future.
The recommendation was endorsed with Cr Roles and Cr Tony Flanery voting against.
