In June, we ran a story about the development of the new $9 million Bunnings store in Young which at the time was expected to open by the end of 2020.

Precast panels have been stood at the site on Boorowa Street, with steelworks now being completed ahead of roofing, which is expected to commence shortly.

The store opened during December, 2020.

In February this year, a truck and train collided at a level crossing near Bribbaree.

The truck was travelling north-east on Mary Gilmore Way about two kilometres north-east of Bribbaree Road when it collided with a freight train about 7am.

"It was a challenging multi-faceted scene requiring different approaches," Inspector Jacob Reeves of Young Police said after the incident.

There was no loss of life.

The driver of the truck was taken to Young Hospital for treatment and made a full recovery.

During May, Hilltops council announced parks and playgrounds across the Hilltops region will reopen, however skateparks will remain closed.

Hilltops Council made the call following the NSW government's announcement of the easing of some restrictions from Friday, May 15.

Ten people will be allowed in parks and playgrounds at any one time and social distancing must be followed. Council said signage would be in place outlining these requirements. Some public toilets were still closed at that time to allow for twice daily cleaning of the ones that were open.
