If you're looking for some new togs in time for summer, you could do worse than this pair of "immortal smugglers" featuring none other than Andrew "Joey" Johns.
Featured in the Budgy Smugglers online store, the swimmers sport an iconic Mad Monday image - which the former Newcastle Knights player apparently can't remember - taken after the '97 grand final win over Manly.
The image shows Joey, beer in hand, skateboarding down a Newcastle street in NSW's Hunter region. It's also available on a bucket hat and a female swimsuit.
Now that Joey is back in Newcastle coaching at the Knights, it seems extra fitting to consider getting a pair of these togs as a memento.
Joey promoted the togs on his Instagram account, saying: "Can't stop laughing about this effort from @budgysmuggler capturing this iconic Mad Monday moment (wish I could remember) after the '97 GF win".
"Available in men's, women's and a bucket hat as well. First batch sold out but they've restocked already. All manufactured in Aus."
We went to budgysmuggler.com.au and checked out the immortal smugglers, but the images were oddly blurred.
The first thing that came to mind was whether the company had struck some kind of copyright problem with the image, which was taken from a famous photo.
So we asked the company and received this reply from "general smuggling manager" Brenden Hartmann: "We just had to jump through some hoops with Maccas to feature their logo, which is all sorted now".
"Thanks for the reminder, we can unblur the image."
