Council’s Traffic Facilities Committee put forward the list of six items for council to address that were tabled at the meeting.
Council has agreed to continue the development of a traffic management plan for afternoon peak hour traffic flows at St Mary’s Public School in Boothby Street and Blackett Avenue.
They have also been asked to have staff liaise with Young High School principal Andrew Turvey regarding a bus bay in Berthong Street, as well as with the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) safety around schools officer to finalise a layout.
Council staff will source funding for the bus bay from RMS.
Among the items on the to-do list is for council to talk with the RMS safety around schools officer about potential funding options for Young Public School’s parking arrangements in Bruce Street.
There will also be an extension to the Monteagle Public School bus route for the pick-up and drop-off of students.
Blackett Ave, Iandra Street, Jerrybang Lane and Scenic Road north of Monteagle
Village are set to be removed from the existing approved route.
Monteagle Stock Route Road (west) and Waterview Road will remain unchanged.
The route will include accessing a property, which its entrance is of suitable size for a bus to travel in and out of.
The Traffic Committee wrote in their minutes, also tabled at council’s meeting, that if the property access requires improvement works or maintenance a Works Within Road Reserve application will be submitted for approval prior to any works being done.
It has also been requested that the bus operator be aware that council cannot provide all weather access on its gravel road network.
During times of inclement weather the operator may need to make other arrangements for passengers.
The final request was to upgrade a new route and signage directing people to the Young District Hospital.
Council will now seek funding from RMS for the upgrades.
The changed route will include, from the north, Elizabeth Street, left into William Street, right into Zouch Street, right into Cloete Street, right into Main Street, left into Short Street onto Campbell Street and left into Allanan Street to the hospital.
From the east, the route will be Whiteman Ave, left into Zouch Street, right into Cloete Street,
right into Main Street, left into Short Street onto Campbell Street and left into Allanan Street.
From the south, Campbell Street and left into Allanan Street to the hospital, and west, Boorowa Street, right into Thornhill Street and left into Allanan Street.
