Councillor Sandy Freudenstein requested at Young Shire Council’s July meeting last week that Senior Constables Karen and Brendan Clark receive Community Recognition Awards for their involvement at the Young PCYC.
The husband and wife team run programs through the facility to assist youth at risk of becoming young offenders.
“I think they’re more than worthy of it,” Cr Freudenstein said.
She made particular mention of Senior Constable Karen Clark – who is the Young PCYC youth case manager – for winning Police Officer of the Quarter for her work with youth at a PCYC regional awards meeting in Wagga in June.
PCYC CEO Darren Black visited the Young club to present her the award – as well as an award for one of the facility’s volunteers Scott Macgregor.
Senior Constable Karen Clark has been working at the PCYC for five years.
Cr Brian Ingram also took the opportunity to nominate Kathy West and the Young Pony Club committee for another successful Young Pony Club Camp this year.
“Every school holidays they put on a camp for the kids and every year the weather is horrible for them,” he said.
“They need to be recognised for the hard work they put into the pony club camp.”
There were 170 participants from four to 19 years old from around the state who braved the cold and sometimes wet conditions to hone their skills, learn from qualified instructors and make new friends.
The camp has become renowned for nurturing the talents of young riders.
