DUI four times in two days: A Young man caught drink driving four times in two days in Victoria has been jailed for six months. Tony Benson blew a reading of 0.08 when breath tested by police just hours after receiving a suspended sentence for three drink driving offences last week.

Cancer Council store closes its doors for good: Minimal public demand for a physical local office has seen the Cancer Council close its offices in the Millard Centre on Thursday. Young High helps reclaim Wiradjuri: Learning another language is a standard part of most high school curriculums. But few students could lay claim to learning the local indigenous language through an ongoing program. Scholarship gets Stoddard to America: AMERICA is currently regarded as one of the top countries for women’s soccer in the world. So when local soccer star Eden Stoddard was offered a sporting scholarship in America, she jumped at the opportunity, flying out last Friday.

ACT success for local gymnasts: Brianna Briggs, Annabelle Smith and Jetta Kennett with their ribbons they won in the ACT competition.

Pregnant and no place to go: A Young woman forced to travel to Cowra when she went into labour because no doctor was available at the Young District Hospital, has sparked outrage among community members who are calling out for something to be done about the shortage of doctors in town.

Robotic solution to strengthen education: oung teachers had the chance to learn the basics of robotic programming recently, as part of a program which aims to enhance local students’ participation in higher education. Quiet start to WW1 centenary celebrations: There was a lot of talk about the 100th anniversary of the start to World War 1 being commemorated around the country on Monday. At 11pm on Monday, August 4, 1914 Great Britain declared itself at war with Germany.

Young impresses Tidy Towns judge: Young’s Tidy Town committee is looking to go one up in its success last year when it was named runner-up in the overall town category of the Tidy Town Awards. Has anyone seen Bubbles? Bubbles, a much-loved platypus who caught the hearts of Young’s Facebook community earlier this week was sadly still to be found on Wednesday. The soft toy belonged to a day care centre in Brisbane who was taken on holidays by his three-year-old carer.

NSW Police presentations: A SPECIAL ceremony honouring NSW Police officers attached to the Cootamundra Local Area Command (LAC), including five from Young, was held last week, with Senior Constable Joe Camilleri being congratulated by Southern Region Commander Acting Assistant Commissioner Kyle Stewart for special mention.

Action packed year full of kick: IT HAS been a massive year for the team at the Kumiai-Ryu Martial Arts Club, with tournaments, gradings, training seminars and movie nights filling the agenda. Men’s shed goes in to bat for creatures of the night: In a bid to protect microbats in the shire, Young District Landcare has turned to the Men’s Shed for help. Landcare has asked our handy seniors to make 60 bat boxes to protect and improve the habitat of the microbat. Chapman among nation’s best: Hard work and dedication has paid off for one local polocrosse club member Kierin Chapman who was selected to compete among Australia’s best at the 2014 Darwin Nationals.

Smart play and concentration key: Young’s Under 16s travelled to Temora on the weekend to play a side that has three Country rep players who can really dominate a side, but Young managed to nullify their attack. Player Casey Wall tried to put a dint in the opposition but to no avail, going down 24-14.
