Young radio announcer Wes Heather was another to praise the response of the town at the races, particularly those who purchased a ticket into his Lifeline marquee.

Wes has been passionately raising money and awareness for Lifeline for the last three years, with this year being the second time he’s hosted a marquee at the races.
Lifeline has been a charity close to Wes’ heart after his older brother suffered depression and committed suicide 12 years ago at the age of 25.
He said his event was a bigger success and ran a lot more smoothly compared to last year, attracting a sell-out 160 ticket holders.
“Last year was a learning experience... this year the atmosphere was electric, it was amazing,” he said.
“Everyone had such kind words and had a good time.”
His highlight was the amount of awareness raised for Lifeline and how his family and closest friends were by his side.
“Anthony (club president) mentioned to me what a success it was and suggested next year to go bigger, have another section and sell more tickets,” he said.
“All of my family were there, that made the day more special - knowing that this was inspired by my brother... and having [my bestie] Amy by my side all day just topped it off.”
Wes’ best mate, Robert Craig, also drove six hours from the Central Coast on Thursday night to be in Young by Friday to help him set up.
“On behalf of myself and Lifeline I want to thank the community for getting behind yet another of my charity fundraisers. I want to thank them very much for being part of the event, it wouldn’t have been a success without them,” he said.
“Also a special thanks to all of my sponsers including Grove Estate Wines for the bar and my three staff members Corinne Jones, Michael Spencer and Nikki Malone.”
