With last year’s committee setting big goals for the club’s future, secretary Priscilla Edgerton is pleased to see them falling into place.
“It’s very excited for the club to have two teams on the paddock this year,” she said.
“All the girls are really enthusiastic and excited about playing under the Bears banner.”
While Edgerton is pleased with the response from players, she says there is always room for more.
“You don’t have to be sporty or experienced - if you’re after some fun, want to learn or get involved, you’re more than welcome to come to training sessions on Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoons from 5.30pm at Cranfield Oval,” she said.
The Bears’ First Grade men’s side is also off to a good start to the season with a solid 30 players attending training three nights a week.
After undergoing a major turnover of players and being appointed co coaches Peter Campbell and Kerry Foley, the team hopes to improve on last year’s efforts which saw them finish second last on the ladder.
“With a disappointing end to last season, Burrangong have high hopes for the upcoming season, as players are keen to do better within the competition,” Edgerton said.
“It’s good at the beginning of the season to have 30 players going to training three nights a week when the competition is still about two months away, it’s pretty encouraging for the upcoming season.”
The men aim to improve their defence and fitness, strengthen plays and better their ranking in the competition.
The Bears will face a new side in the Woodbridge Cup as the Binalong Brahmans join the competition.
Edgerton thinks they will be one of the top teams in the competition.
The first round of the Woodbridge Cup will kick off on the weekend of April 11.
Edgerton wishes to thank last year’s committee for their hard work and welcome the club’s new committee for 2015.
She also extended the club’s appreciation for this year’s sponsors.
“There are still sponsorship options available to anyone wishing to sponsor during the 2015 season,” she said.
