The increase has compelled Councillor Ben Cooper to ask council staff what services council offered the greyhound club.
The draft sportsground fees were presented in the 2015-16 draft council budget during an extraordinary meeting on May 6.
Local sporting clubs should expect to pay an additional $10 to $415 more for the use of the town’s nine sporting venues next financial year.
The Young Greyhound Racing Club - who utilise Alfred Oval alongside the Young Rugby League Club and Young Cricket Association - will receive the highest increase ($415) in their current annual fee of $5195.
Next year, if the fee is given the final tick-off, the club will be paying $5610 - $1765 more than the rugby league and cricket clubs and the highest figure than any other sporting club in town.
On top of this the club cares for and maintains the track at the oval.
Cr Cooper - chair of the Young Sports Advisory Committee - spoke up.
“I see the fees for sportsgrounds have gone up, which is fine, but I wanted to ask how much work do we offer the greyhound club?” He asked.
Council’s operations director Dirk Wymer, who oversees the maintenance of local sporting grounds, said the greyhound club’s fees covered rent, water charges and maintenance of the TAB area.
“Everything except the track,” he said.
