Four teams from Young travelled to two different venues in Sydney’s north west to contest four divisions, showcasing the brightest and best young netballing talent the state had to offer.
They joined more than 3500 athletes from 294 teams representing 83 associations around NSW for this year’s tournament.
The Under 12s finished in an impressive 10th position, which according to association president Sharon Lyth didn’t reflect their efforts over the weekend.
The Under 12s travelled to Hawkesbury where they contested 17 games against teams from around the state.
“They were outstanding in their first year in the competition,” Lyth said.
“Coach Shelby Inwood was extremely pleased with how they performed.
“Considering it was their first year at that level they went above and beyond all expectations of them.”
The Under 13s had their work cut out for them as they contested 18 games at Hawkesbury.
Lyth said the girls improved on last year’s efforts, winning five of the 18 games in comparison to one win in 2014.
The Under 14s also travelled to Hawkesbury and, like the 13s, vastly improved on last year to earn themselves 15th place.
“The 14s did well considering they never won a game last year,” Lyth said.
“They had to bring a new player in on the Tuesday prior to State Age after one got injured.
“They had a lot of close games.”
The Under 15s placed 12th in the state after playing extremely well in Division 3.
“They had a lot of close games over the weekend - they won six and lost nine which were only by one or two goals,” Lyth said.
Lyth said the results reflected a great effort considering the standard of competition the girls were up against.
“Congratulations girls, you were inspiring over the whole weekend both on and off the court in representing the association and Young itself,” she said.
