YOUNG’S Jack Perkins, 27, has had a good start to the busy Christmas period after taking out the Novice Adult Saddle Bronc Ride at Harden Rodeo on the weekend.

The overseer at a local property, who also took 69 points in the Open Bronc event, said while he “didn’t do too bad,” there’s still room for improvement.
“The rodeo itself, because they haven't run it for a few years now, was actually a really good rodeo for the likes of Zac Lightner and Markus Ashton who have put in a lot of work for it,” he said.
“They ran a really good show and it’s just going to get better every year from now on.”
Perkins will use this week to prepare for the weekend’s rodeo at Gundagai, before heading to Moss Vale and then into a busy December period of competition.
Perkins - who grew up around horses - has ridden saddle broncs for nearly two years and has his eyes on this year’s rookie title.
