The Under 16 Cherrypickers fell victim to Southcity Bulls on Sunday who are currently sitting in fourth place on the ladder.
Young were a little slow off the mark at Wagga when in the third minute the Bulls scored out wide.
This flicked a switch in the ‘Pickers outfit and the next 15 minutes saw both sides display great defence and attack.
Young received a penalty while working out of their own end, and the kick failed to find touch, giving Southcity great field position as they scored out wide again in the 19th minute.
The next 10 minutes saw Young given multiple opportunities to score while in attacking Southcity’s line, but unfortunately they couldn’t crack the Bulls’ strong defence
Young went into half time down 8-nil.
Once again Young came out of the sheds a bit sluggish and Southcity crossed over in the 32nd minute.
One out running and slow defence off the line let the Bulls run over the try line again In the 38th minute.
Young, not willing to give up, displayed courage to try fight their way back, when Southcity broke the ‘Pickers’ defensive line.
A big chase from Nic Maloney saw a superman like dive on the oppositions back to shut down their try opportunity.
Young seemed to shape up a lot stronger in the tail end of the second half with a dominating run from forward Dom Scott.
Young then swooped left of the field, and then back to the right to see halfback Jayden Cutting slice his way through to the try line to bring the final score to 18-4 in favour of Southcity.
Regular dummy half Zac Sell had a stint in second row to blow off a few cobwebs and with his big defence and bashing attack saw him with the players player award this week.
Young has the bye this weekend and are keen to get back to Alfred Oval to take on Wagga Brothers the following weekend.
