The NSW SES Young Unit have 10 volunteer members who respond 24/7 to storm and flood events, and regularly support other emergency services.
During the last 12 months the unit has responded locally to over 20 requests for assistance during storm and flood events, and have contributed in excess of 400 hours of service between operational response, training and community events.
Member for Cootamundra, Katrina Hodgkinson, representing the Minister for Emergency Services, was on hand to present an award to Deputy Local Controller Barrie Miller for 40 years of diligent service to the NSW SES.
"Dedicated volunteers like Barrie are the lifeblood of their units and it is my pleasure to be able to acknowledge their hard work and committment," Ms Hodgkinson said.
NSW SES Director of Region West, Scott Hacknel, congratulated Barrie on his important contribution to the Young community.
"The member honoured tonight should be extremely proud of his service and achievements," he said.
"The awards presented tonight reflect 40 years of helping others and developing Young Unit to be a foundation of the local community."
