The junior Yabbies are earning a name for themselves in the Canberra Rugby Competition as they continue to work their way to the top of each division.

The Under 18 Yabbies defeated Grammar Rugby School 48-21 to keep their winning record intact since relegation into Division Two.
Co-coach Wally Everdell said an outstanding first half set-up worked in Young’s favor to put them ahead 28-7 at half time.
“Certainly the first half we were very dominant with exceptional games from Billy Moncrief and Declan Brebner,” Everdell said.
“We let them (Grammar) back into the game for about 20 minutes in the second half before coming home strongly with a couple more tries.”
Everdell confirmed the win now places Young in finals contention, and looking ahead to the coming weekend he feels confident of continuing the streak against Daramalen.
“We played the first half of this season in Division One where obviously it’s much harder rugby, and we’re trying to keep the intensity that was expected in Division One and trying to take it into Division Two,” he said.
“It’s obviously giving us good results.”
Points were shared between Declan Brebner and Riley Turner (3), Billy Moncrief and Daniel Parker (2), and Kane Mills (1).
The 18s play at Cranfield Oval this Saturday, kick-off at 1.45pm.
The Under 16 Yabbies also cemented themselves a finals position on Saturday as they defeated the Uni Norths, 70-nil.
The Yabbies now sit in second place behind the Canberra Vikings, and according to coach John Turner the local boys are coming to a peak.
“The boys are playing with a huge amount of passion, they’re having good fun playing football and they’re a well-drilled side,” he said.
“They tackled ferociously, were fantastic at the breakdown and in attack they just threw the ball around and played beautiful, free-flowing rugby.
“They were determined the other team wasn’t going to get over the line, and they’ve done that for three weeks now.
“They’re playing better every game and are very excited heading into the finals.”
Points to Frazer Ryder (3), James Ferguson (2) and one each to Rory Turner and Nick Maloney.
The Under 16s well enjoy a week off due to a bye this weekend for the last round of the regular season.
