Earlier in the month I had the privilege of attending a NSW Police Force medal presentation ceremony to acknowledge the significant role our Police Officers play in our communities.

It was wonderful to see our officers being paid tribute for their dedication to the force and the upstanding way in which they conduct their duties.
A number of our local officers received recognition for many years of outstanding service to the NSW Police Force and their individual communities.
It was an honour to address the officers and their families during the ceremony to acknowledge the positive contribution they have made.
Last week I attended the NSW Police Force Cootamundra Local Area Command Team meeting in Gundagai to discuss issues relating to the Command and individual Local Government Areas.
I was pleased to hear that the crime rate statistics for the Hilltops Area had reduced significantly and that a successful Drug Operation had been conducted in Young.
Mobile Drug Testing Units have been rolled out across the Local Area Command and this initiative will continue to assist Police in helping to keep our roads safe from those under the influence.
Discussion was raised regarding an increase in petty theft of valuables in unlocked vehicles.
As the warmer months approach, this is a timely reminder to hide or secure all belongings.
I was able to discuss the inadequacy of the facilities at the Young Police Station with Katrina Hodgkinson, Member for Cootamundra, who was also present at the meeting, and the real need for these facilities to be upgraded to a suitable standard.
Our Police Officers provide crucial services to our communities and this is an important space for the Hilltops Council to stay engaged and informed.
