Member for Cootamundra, Katrina Hodgkinson, has announced Young will benefit from $1.4 million of funding to be allocated over 22 projects in her electorate.
Among those thrilled at the news is Young Harness Racing, Young Showground Trust Chair Bill Daly, Ray Blackwood, Pat Fletcher and Jim Lamb.
Ms Hodgkinson said applications were very strong this year for the distribution of funds under the 2016/17 Public Reserves Management Fund (PRMF) and that she’s pleased to see more than $1.4 million will be allocated in her electorate.
Among those projects is the Young Showground grandstand which will receive a $600,000 upgrade to current building standarts.
Harness racing life member, Stuart Maxwell, said any improvement is a good improvement.
“It is unfortunate that the grand stand in it’s present state hasn’t been used by the trotting club for many years since the track went to left-hand racing and the winning post is at the bottom end,” he said.
“Anything that will put forward a more positive spin on the showground and it’s future uses will benefit everyone.
“Let’s hope with the upgrading of the grand stand it will incorporate other features that can be used by other organisations – any improvement’s a good improvement.”
