Local community organisation, the Josephite Foundation Young No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS), is excited about delivering significant savings to their clients thanks to a new appliance subsidy initiative by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH).
Young NILS coordinator, Judy barker, said through the Home Energy Action (HEA) Appliance Program they can now offer clients who are applying for one of our microfinance loans, discounts of 40 to 50 per cent on good quality, energy efficient TVs and fridges,
“This means our clients who want to buy fridges or TVs using our No Interest Loan Scheme will need to borrow less in order to buy what they need,” she said.
The HEA Appliance Program replaces your old inefficient appliances.
When the new appliance is delivered your old appliance is removed and recycled. Taking away the inefficient item could prevent you from losing $200 on annual energy bills for fridges and up to $125 for TVs.
Young NILS is part of the nationwide Good Shepherd Microfinance No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) network. No interest loans are available to people holding a Centrelink or DVA concession card or who are a working low income earner.
Loans are between $300 and $1,200 and repayments are set up at an affordable amount over 12 to 18 months. Young NILS has been based at the Young & District Community Hub since 2010 servicing people living in Young, Boorowa, Harden, Cootamundra, Temora and Grenfell.
“We all know rising energy costs have a disproportionate impact on people with low incomes and we know energy efficient appliances are one of the best ways to combat this increase,” Judy said.
“We’re very excited to be offering the HEA Appliance Program to our clients because not only do the subsidies offer immediate savings to them, but they will continue to save on their energy bills into the future.”
The OEH has partnered with The Good Guys and Good Shepherd Microfinance to deliver these subsidies to people on low incomes in NSW.
“We’re really proud to be the exclusive supplier of the Home Energy Action Appliance Program,” Commercial Sales at The Good Guys general manager, Donald Furber, said.
“Doing good and making a difference in the local community is a significant part of how we do business at The Good Guys.”
