A trend unwanted that continues to this day. When forces mighty and wholly meteorological, turned our golf from leisurely to wholly scatological. Play was cancelled due to rain driving from the north, with a repeat performance the next week, June the fourth. Same for eleven and eighteen under a mild monsoon, in fact, twenty-five was the only playing day for June. July saw play on two, sixteen but no other golfing days, just more rain, soggy ground and dispirited malaise.
Regular weekly downpours turned turf conditions wetter, and the dolrums set in seriously when August wasn’t any better. Golf on thirteen went ahead with three holes out of play, and even then, wet feet, wet clubs were order of the day. September has been written off - three, ten and seventeen, no date is set for despondent members to reconvene. The usual fare at Clover Leigh is to walk, or take a cart. But future rounds will necessitate golf balls that stay afloat, An umbrella, gumboots and ... oh yeah, bring your boat!
