After many years of trying Young P&A have been granted a weekend date to hold their annual Show. At the recent Central West Zone meeting in Forbes the executive allocated the third Sunday in September each year to be Young’s show date.
The one-day show – with a possible night show that evening – will fall on September 17, 2017. We are very happy with the result considering over 75 Ag Shows in NSW are held on a Sunday and the committee are looking forward to discussing and organising an entertaining program and exhibition for patrons in 2017. Saturday the 16th will be a set-up day only and we would like to acknowledge the support of the Eugowra Show Society for their support.
For various reasons a week-day Show is no longer sustainable in Young and it took a brave decision by the committee to vote and agree not to hold the very traditional Annual Show in 2016. However the committee have not been idle and took the opportunity to hold several events and functions throughout 2016. Here is a brief summary and we will elaborate more in future columns.
The catering crew have been busy through the year catering for auction sales at the Showground and Calendar Girls. Catering is an important and regular source of income for Young P&A and a big thanks to the volunteers who continue to turn up regularly.
The Young Farmers Challenge prior to the Ball proved to be a hilarious event and the teams, whether they knew it or not, put on an entertaining show for the crowd.
The near sell-out Fundraising Show Ball has been a huge hit. Our two lovely Showgirls were presented on the night with Marina McMillan taking the honours. Celebrity hairdresser, Joh Bailey, entertained with his unique stories as guest speaker while John Gerrard and his crew conducted the successful fundraising auction. After formalities the band Blazing Boots kicked into gear and had the Pavilion and guests rocking well into the night.
Sunday of the October Long Weekend introduced an extremely popular new event, the Spring Horse Show. With many other shows being cancelled or postponed competitors came from afar to gain their performance points for the 2017 Sydney Royal. Congratulations to the Horse Committee who did a complete revamp of the schedule and the many competitors and sponsors who supported the day. With high praise from visitors and locals alike the Spring Horse Show may is set to become an annual event.
All are welcome to the next general meeting of Young P&A Association on 10th of November. For further details contact Secretary Sam on 0400 251 508.
