Ever pondered what your death row meal would be or what historical figure shares similar qualities with you? Roz Hall Farlam has and she asked some well-known locals a few Proustian-style questions to get inside their heads.
What is your idea of perfect happiness? The Chinese Tribute Gardens on a mild summer day to brainstorm ideas and feed the swans and wild birds.
What is your greatest fear? Running out of time to do all the things I want to in my life.
What always makes you laugh? Stephen Fry on (TV show) QI – he can make the most obscure trivia seem hysterically funny.
Who are your favourite writers? William Shakespeare and sci-fi writer Diane Duane.
What is your current state of mind? Excited. I’m about to start writing a novel with another multi-published author.
If you had to get a tattoo (or another one if you do already) what would it be – a word, picture, symbol and why? I’d get a temporary one - I’m so not into tattoos - probably a tiger.
What living person do you most admire? William Shatner, actor, director, writer and philanthropist. I met him in LA last year, and at 85, he’s more full of life than many people a third his age.
Which historical figure do you most identify with? Boudicca (Boadicea) because she was such a strong, independent woman who led an army of her followers against the Romans occupying Britain.
What is your worst habit? Like most writers - procrastination. When starting a new project even housework looks appealing.
What is your greatest regret? I was invited to the unveiling of Gene Roddenberry’s (creator of Star Trek) star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was the first writer to be so honoured but I was committed to an event as guest speaker in Australia and could not attend.
Which talent would you most like to have? To be like Dr. Doolittle and communicate with animals.
If you could get away with one crime what would it be? Doing something evil to whoever invented electronic amplifiers which spoil live music performances for me.
Your death row meal? Probably lobster with Veuve Clicquot vintage champagne.
