At the February meeting of the Hospital Auxiliary theatre manager Wendy Gaal demonstrated a trauma bed which has been on trial at the Emergency Department.
Hospital Auxiliary president Janice Ward said both the staff and patients who have used it have been very impressed with its features.
"The Auxiliary was also impressed so much so, that we approved the purchase of the demonstrator for $6,273, and another for $6,976 and an X-ray cassette holder for $470," she said.
"The cassette fits along the back of the raised bed enabling X-rays to be taken without the patient getting off the bed."

Mrs Ward said other features of the trauma bed include it being easy to manoeuvre.
"It’s raised electrically rather than by foot-pumping, it lowers enough so that people can get on it safely without using the steps which used to have to be climbed, " she said.
"The bed can be raised to whatever height is most suitable, side rails are easily raised and or lowered, the mattress is very comfortable, and the bed can be placed in various positions for the comfort of patients or to suit procedures.
"Other hospitals have been very interested in the trial at Young, and it looks like Harden and Cootamundra Hospitals will also be investing in a trauma bed."
Mrs Ward said the auxiliary have discussed plans for raising the money to pay for the beds.
"We have decided to hold a luncheon on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at 11.30 am," she said.
"The luncheon will be held at the Young Services Club with special guest Valerie Parv AM. set to speak at the event."
"Seating will be at tables of 10, but we can easily combine singles or small groups."
Tickets must be bought and picked up from the club by Friday, March 24 (for catering purposes.) Cost is $25.
