A small crowd of protesters stood in front of the Young Service NSW building on Tuesday with the Shadow Minister for Finance, Services and Property, Clayton Barr and Country Labor spokesman Charlie Sheahan.

The concerned locals were protesting the State Government’s decision to appoint private providers to do the work of Service NSW.

Mr Barr said Young Service NSW Centre will be affected by the decision to allow international private corporates to deliver essential services in NSW.

“This will threaten the security of people’s personal information. Service NSW holds everyone’s intimate details – where they were born, where they live and what health conditions they have. This will now be in the hands of private companies who can use it to their own advantage” he said.

“Sell, privatise, outsource and send offshore is the standard mantra of the Berejiklian Government.”

Country Labor’s Charlie Sheahan said this will be an issue in the upcoming by-election.

“All the information of Young residents that is held on firearms, fishing, boating and driving licenses will be in the hands of private companies and that info is very marketable, this decision makes us unsure how that information will be protected,“ he said.

But Cootamundra MP Katrina Hodgkinson said the Berejiklian Government has not privatised Service NSW.

“This is a complete beat-up by Labor who obviously have nothing better to do,” she said.

“A cursory look at the facts would establish that Service NSW is not being privatised.”

However, Mr Barr questioned why the Government would appoint seven private companies if they have no plan to outsource the work of Service NSW.

“It is clear this is a continuation of the Berejiklian Government’s rapid privatisation agenda,” he said.

“Over the last 12 months, the Nationals have back-flipped on a number of unpopular policies in Young. They realised that forced council mergers, the greyhound racing ban and the FESL levy were all bad decisions that impacted on people from rural and regional NSW. 

“I want to issue a challenge to the Leader of the Nationals, particularly in the lead-up to the Cootamundra by-election – come out publicly and promise the people of Young that the Government won’t be privatising Service NSW. Reassure them that their personal details will be safe and not available to private corporations”.
