As the weather heats up, police are reminding the public that not only is it an offence for children or pets to be left unattended in a vehicle, even with the air conditioning on, but it can be deadly.
According to the RSPCA it only takes six minutes for a dog to die in a car on a hot day.
An RSPCA spokesperson said dogs can overheat even when the windows are down and the car is parked in the shade.
The RSPCA also wish to remind pet owners that ute trays can burn animal paws and bodies on seriously hot days.
Anyone who finds a child or pet located in a vehicle should call Triple Zero (000).
