Former resident of Young, and graduate of Young High School, Mr Andrew Nicholls, was a recent recipient of a Public Service Medal in the 2018 Australia Day honours. Mr Nicholls was award for outstanding public service to transport and insurance policy development and reform in New South Wales.

Currently Executive Director in the Office of Environment and Heritage, Mr Nicholls has had a long and distinguished career in the New South Wales Public Service and throughout this time has displayed drive, dedication, diligence, adaptably and leadership,
delivering on a vast array of key policy issues in various public sector agencies.
Leading the NSW Green Slip Scheme since 2010, and more recently as Executive Director, Motor Accidents Insurance Regulation, within the State Insurance Regulatory Authority since 2015. His most notable achievement has been leading the reform of the $2.5 billion New South Wales Compulsory Third Party (CTP) scheme and its successful implementation.
