Young Officer in Charge Detective Inspector Scott Wilkinson has warned locals to always lock their cars if they are away from them.
"Between 10.00pm on Friday, February 16 and 6.30am on Saturday, February 17 a silver Holden station sedan was stolen from an address in Hills St, Young," he said.
"It was located crashed into the trotting track railing at the Young Showgrounds on the 17th.
"Between 8pm on Friday, February 16 and 7.00am on the 17th a grey Suzuki Vitara was stolen from the driveway of a house in Garland Place Young. It was recovered in Ballyran St, Boorowa on the 17th.
Inspector Wilkinson said members of the public are urged to be vigilant and ensure that they lock their vehicles when not in use and secure the keys.
"Vehicles were entered in Nielson St, and Market St, Boorowa, and Edward St Young on Saturday, February 17," he said.
"A small amount of property was taken from the vehicle in Young, with nothing taken from the vehicles in Boorowa. It appears that the thieves were looking for car keys.
"Both stolen vehicles had the keys in them, and the other vehicles were left unlocked. Each of the offences is linked, and police are following a promising line of enquiry.
"It is clear from the modus operandi that the thieves are unsophisticated and opportunistic, and do not possess the skill to start a vehicle without keys."
If any member of the communities of Young or Boorowa have any information that may assist police with the enquiry they are urged to contact either Young or Boorowa Police Stations, or ring Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
