A dust storm hit Young on Sunday with the strong winds kicking up dirt after dry conditions over the recent weeks.
The mercury topped out at 36.4 degrees Celsius with the temperature at 9am already sitting at 26.1 degrees. With wind gusts that reached 67km/h and wind speeds over 30km/h throughout the day it was the perfect recipe for a fire.
A property along Back Creek Road near Kingsvale managed to avoid disaster on Sunday morning when a canola windrow rekindled.
According to NSW Rural Fire Service’s Tom McDermott the fire was brought under control very quickly thanks to tankers from Demondrille, Kingsvale and the landholder’s own private units.
The fire was brought to the NSW Rural Fire Service’s attention by a passerby allowing the brigades to attend the property quickly.
Mr McDermott said not even a hectare of land was burnt by the fire.
