Police are investigating the theft of a cache of firearms and ammunition from a residence in Young recently.

Young police say they are concerned at the brazenness of the theft and its consequences for the community.
Officer In Charge of Young Police Station Acting Inspector Paul Martyn said the offender(s) struck early in the morning of Monday, April 1, 2018.
“Six firearms and a quantity of ammunition were stolen from a residential home situated at the southern end of Wombat Street Young between 2:30 am and 4:30 am on Monday, April 1,” he said.
“It appears the offender(s) forced entry to an attached garage and then a firearm safe.
“Police are obviously very concerned that the firearms are now out in the community.”
Acting Inspector Martyn said Police would strongly welcome any information from the community about the whereabouts of firearms.
“If anyone noticed the presence of suspicious persons in Wombat Street around the time of the offence, please contact Young Police,” he said.
“We encourage people to contact police or Crime Stoppers, which can be done anonymously if they see anything suspicious in their neighbourhoods.
“We take all information provided by the public seriously, and we will follow it up.”
