Officially NAIDOC Week was held during the first week of the school holidays, making it hard for the school to recognise this week during the official time according to acting principal Mark Birks.
“All classes have been researching the contributions made by Indigenous women to Australia and these were presented at a special NAIDOC Assembly last Friday,” Mr Birks said.
“Also, our Indigenous students and Year 6C attended the NAIDOC Celebrations that were held at Young North Public School.”
The 2018 NAIDOC Week theme is “Because of Her, We Can!”
The theme celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and the roles they have played and continue to play in communities locally, state wide and nationally.
Mr Birks said the students enjoyed the activities and also presented items during their time at the Young North Public School celebration.
